Understanding Bile Duct Cancer
Cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) is a rare cancer that forms in the thin tubes carrying digestive fluid between the liver, gallbladder, and small intestine. Because early symptoms are subtle, it is often difficult to detect in its beginning stages, making increased awareness and early recognition essential.
As a tumor grows and blocks the flow of bile, common warning signs may appear. Seeking prompt medical evaluation when these signs occur can significantly expand treatment options for patients.
Jaundice
Yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes, caused by a buildup of bile in the body.
Persistent Itching
Severe, generalized skin itching without an obvious rash or external cause.
Dark Urine
Changes in body waste, where urine becomes unusually dark and stools appear pale or gray.
Abdominal Pain
Discomfort or a dull ache in the upper right side of the stomach area.
Weight Loss & Fatigue
Sudden loss of appetite, unintended weight loss, and ongoing tiredness.
